Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Manipulation

ACUTE INJURIES can be treated after the first 48 hours of first aid treatment. Sports massage will Increase the circulation and promote healing within the traumatized muscle. The early stages of scar tissue can also be removed, inflammation may be reduced and sports massage can prevent further damage to the original injury.

CHRONIC INJURIES or soft tissue problems can also be treated with excellent results (causes may be identified and referral is sometimes advised). Long-standing injuries leave adhesions between the muscle layers and bones, The result of this is loss of range of movement and decreased flexibility. The adhesions within the connective tissue also produce impinging of the nerves and lack of circulation to the surrounding muscles, the symptoms of which will be pain and a very slow healing process.

LYMPHATIC DETOXATION
The Lymphatic system Detoxifies our bodies and fights infection. However it can be effected by illness, stress, surgery, alcohol, injuries and many more which cause a build up of toxins. This slows down the cleansing process reducing the ability to fight bacteria and also makes you feel lethargic and unmotivated. Lymph massage physically pushes deposits back through the system and results are usually evident within 24 hours.

MAINTENANCE TREATMENTS
General sports massage to prevent injury and identify any potential problems.

PRE & POST-OPERATIVE
PRE-OPERATIVE work is important to prepare the body and muscles for surgery and keeping them in good condition. POST - OPERATIVE treatment reduces adhesions and lessens scar tissue at visible and lower levels. Both pre and post -operative treatment promotes healing and reduces the side effects of surgery.

CEREBRAL PALSY
After 16 years of developing certain techniques I am now treating patients with cerebral palsy to great effect. High tone muscles are unable to be stretched effectively due to the hypertension within the muscles, so usual methods of stretching not only causes resistance of the anti stretch reflex but also show little long term effect. However, specific massage and specialized techniques generally show results within one week. The benefits gained are more flexibility, muscle facilitation that allows a range of movement, more awareness and sensation, which includes the ability to stretch the now released muscle.

PARKINSON’S DISEASE
Massage has been known to be effective for Parkinson’s but isn’t widely used. Sport massage can also treat deep-seated muscle tension, built up because of the condition. This may be combined with an exercise and stretch program if required in order to improve strength.

REHABILITATION treatment, advice programs for exercises and injury management are all a big part of recovery and these are all encouraged at the clinic.
